Foggy Fool's Farrago) in 2000 - when I was staying with my cousin in Padmanabha Nagara, Bangalore. My friend Manjunath (Manja) and myself would go for walk every morning to nearby temple cum park on a small hillock - where we had a walking track in the park for fat burners like us...There, they would play Manku Timmana Kagga over P.A. system every morning. It was a series of 10 cassettes where narration and explanation was done by Chinmaya Mission (I don't remember the exact name of the person). I liked it and started listening. Later found out that we had some of those cassettes in my cousin's place itself!! It is also available on web - www.kannadaaudio.com/Songs/Harikathe/home/MankutimmanaKagga.php streaming audio you require real player.

Over the years I listened to this audio narration many times and still enjoy doing it.
A fortnight ago myself and my friend visited Sapna Book House in Jayanagar, Bangalore in search of some essay writing book for his nephew. At that time I was just exploring Kannada section of the store and saw a book called 'Kaggakkondu Kaipidi' (Translating to 'Reference Manual for Kagga') by Venkataramanan.
After some deliberation I picked up that book - as my sister Shanthala keeps telling me that 'read all the books you have - before picking up new one's' - she is right, I haven't completely read many books I have bought!
Late Shri Venkataramanan was a very close associate of DVG / 'Timma Guru' as he calls. He has done a wonderful job in explaining Kagga to Manku Timma's like me.
Started reading it as soon as I came home.
This book elaborates on each paragraph of Manku Timmanna Kagga. DVG's Kagga is in sort of Poetic Kannada - old and poetic version of Kannada language. It contains four-lined stanzas. Each stanza is independent - I mean you can pick any stanza in random, read it and make sense out of it- as they are not interconnected in flow. This type of independence in stanzas is called as Muktaka in Kannada. I don't know the equivalent English terminology. There are 945 stanzas and all are 4 lined.
Everyone who have read Kagga including well known personalities like Kuvempu, Nittur Srinivasa Rao, etc, are all praise for Timma Guru's Kagga. It is hailed as Kannada da Bhagavadgite ( translating to Bhagavadgita of Kannada Language) , Gundopanishad, etc..

I have been reading this book by Venkataraman picking up stanzas in random. So far my experience in reading and understanding Kagga is as below;- Listening to Kagga's narration and explanation was great. But, reading it is 'heaven'. I don't mean that audio cassette narration is inferior. What I mean 'heaven' is - each stanza in Kagga gives us so much to ponder about - that it will take hours/days.. In such case, listening to running audio narration limits our time to ponder. It is sort of hurrying to listen to next verse without really thinking or pondering about the first one...
- We can leisurely read, ponder and draw our own conclusions and re-think the same stanza..
- Reading same stanza in different moods will give us different view, different meaning altogether each time...
- It amazes me how great a person D.V Gundappa was. How great his thinking was. How he thought in ways we wouldn't dream about even in our wildest/ weirdest dreams... His holistic thinking & approach is great.
- Interpretation varies depending upon our experiences in life.
- DVG has written about all the aspects in life. In one stanza he has written about Abraham Lincoln and praised him. In another he has written about cultural interchange and studies across international borders - there indicating that knowledge is not limited by political borders, race, etc......
